In a world where the use of technology in our day to day lives is ever increasing, it’s perfectly reasonable to wonder how artificial intelligence will be/is currently used in business environments. We’re not talking the kind of robots who walk around and act like real people (yet), but rather kinds of software that’re used for all sorts of tasks.
The world of customer service is constantly changing as AI advances, many companies are making it possible for customers to interact with a ‘service representative’ without even speaking to a real human. Through the use of ai that can recognise and respond to speech effectively and logically. A problem with this is that the software obviously lacks the ability to form an emotional connection between itself and customers as this is a human trait. This does put some people off, but others don’t mind it.
Smart personal assistants are also a hugely common form of AI that many people now use daily, virtual assistants such as Siri, Cortana, Alexa, and Google Assistant, are able to recognise speech as well as text and respond to commands. Performing search queries, playing music, the list goes on. These forms of AI are regularly used in home situations as well as within businesses and people tend to fail to see how complex and sophisticated they really are because they’re so familiar to us nowadays. Some may even use ‘machine learning’ which allows them to develop intelligence throughout their usage period.
Another form of overlooked AI is e-commerce, which has the ability to effectively act as if it were a human clerk in a store, calculating totals, tax, adding discounts etc. It is far simpler and more convenient for a large percentage of people to shop online nowadays because it saves time and effort. Hence the ever-growing market for online stores and applications such as ASOS and Amazon, alongside others such as Deliveroo and Uber, which offer real time services.
These are just a few forms of the incredibly advanced technology that is so commonplace in the world at present, and things will only become more intelligent with time. You never know, maybe we will witness robots take over!
